HELP!!! I have a global eurail pass that won't work in the UK. These Chunnel (eurostar) tickets are INSANE! I could REALLY use some great suggestions on how to get to london from paris and then after about a week come back. I've been researching but alas, no luck. Thanks so much!!
Have you checked out the Eurolines buses?
If you purchase 60 days or more out the tickets are fairly reasonable. But other than that you really don't have many options. The bus is slow because it is slow getting across the water.
Frank, once when we took the bus it actually went by the channel tunnel. The driver manoeuvered the bus into a tube-like railway car. Huge trucks were doing the same thing. We had no idea when we left London on the bus that this would happen .... we thought we were going by ferry.
Norma - Great timing on this post. I just purchased a Eurolines 30 day bus pass for my daughter. The first leg of her bus travels is from London to Paris. We too, assumed this meant a ferry. The Chunnel Tunnel sounds more interesting.
Her reservation is for an overnight trip. Do you remember about how long the trip lasted?
Elaine, I don't remember how long the trip was but it was overnight. It is only after the Eurostar trains are finished for the night that the trucks and buses can use the tunnel. I do remember that we arrived in Paris at the bus terminal on the edge of the city VERY early in the morning. There is a metro station close at hand.
Daniel, You can buy passholder fare tickets for the Eurostar. Return (roundtrip) passholder fare tickets cost £100 (€114). Here's a quote from the Eurostar site: "They can only be booked at a Eurostar Terminal or through our contact centre at +44 1233 617 575. All tickets are sold subject to availability." However, if you book well in advance (up to 120 days allowed) at eurostar.com, you can get return (roundtrip) discount fare tickets for as low as €75.
