need help figuring out transfer at Heathrow

Can someone please help me? We have 1 hour, 5 minutes to get off a Virgin Air flight from JFK, landing at Heathrow, and transfer to a British Airways flight departing for Prague.
Have any of you done this? Is this time frame doable?
What do you have to do when you get off one plane and onto another (and another airline) at Heathrow? We will have our bags with us, so don't have to claim a bag. But do we have to go through Customs? Through security again?
Thanks in advance!

Use the connections planner to see the step by step process.

If you're not reclaiming luggage, you don't have to go through immigration; you will go through security. With 65 minutes let's hope you don't have to change terminals.

Are these separately booked tickets, or is this a 'connection' on one flight ticket?

It's through Priceline (my fault, and I will never do it again).

nancy, not to make it worse, but even if your plane arrives exactly on time, unless you're in front row seats, it can take 15-20 minutes just to get off the plane. That's been my experience.

Thank you all. Virgin Air agreed to move us to the next flight, when all agreed Priceline made a mistake putting us on a flight with that narrow of a window. Live and learn. And God bless the Virgin Air rep who was so helpful on the phone.

Hi nancy,

Glad it worked out, phew!

Yes, it is always good to book direct with an airline. In most cases, issues are easier to work out. An outside booking party may not be so helpful; have the necessary info or resources to help you. In this case, Virgin came through.

The times I've flown to Italy, I used British Airways allowing a long layover. But flying from Logan affords me more choices compared to others flying out from other areas. I really like BA, and they have not disappointed me. (I can speak from experience - if something does occur, they do their best to help.)

Have fun!

Glad all worked out.
My last British Air flight, Heathrow to Prague, left from Terminal 3, [I think,] and we were bused from Terminal 5. I was pretty amazed at how long the bus trip was- Heathrow must be a huge airport.
So - do check which terminals you are flying into/ out of, and even with the new flight, move as quickly as you can. Safe travels!

The minimum connection time between two international flights within the same terminal at Heathrow is 60 minutes so selling this was not a mistake. However, if it went wrong Virgin would be on the hook to sort things out, so it seems even they were not keen on the practicability.

Absolutely impressed by the Virgin Air employees and am very happy for you!

I hope those who are considering using a 3rd party vendor to purchase airfare READ YOUR THREAD first!!
