Greetings. My husband and I will be traveling to Rome in September. We had our itinerary all set, then a dear friend as offered an option for three days of the trip, one we can't pass up.
Original itinerary: Rome 5 nights
Sienna 3 nights
Monterosso, Cinque Terre 3 nights
Then on from there.
Our friend will join us in Rome. Last year she spent a few glorious days at a resort near Palma, on Mallorca. She plans on going back there after Rome and has invited us to join her - at her expense. So, we have decided to give up Sienna and join her. We have been to Sienna before, so we're okay with that part of it.
My question is - we can either fly from Palma to Rome and then take a train to Monterosso or fly to Milan and take the train from there. Looking at both options, it appears that actual train time from either city is comparable. I am just wondering which would be easier to navigate. If we fly back to Rome, we would then take the train from the airport to Termini station and then on from there. If we fly to Milan, it looks like there is a train station at the airport and off we go from there.
Which would you do? Would the Milan airport be easier, less congested? Note: dates and order of trip can't be changed.
Thanks for all of your expertise.
