Need connection help from Gastwick Airport to Heathrow

I will be arriving in Gastwick Airport around midnight Sat. Oct 16 and need to get to Heathrow for a flight at 7:55 am. What is the best/fastest/cheapest way to do that? I was planning to try a train from Gastwick to Green Park then catch the tube to Heathrow but not sure what would be running at that time of night. I DON'T want to sit at Gastwick and wait for the morning.

Nigel, Unless I'm reading the National Express timetables wrong, the departure times I gave above (01:50 from the South Terminal and 02:00 from the North Terminal) do apply to Sundays. The next departures are at 03:50 and 04:00 respectively with an arrival time of 05:05 at Heathrow.

With a midnight arrival at Gatwick, all Tube trains will have stopped running before you could even get to central London. Your best option is to take a National Express coach (highway bus) directly from Gatwick to Heathrow and join the others who will be trying to get a little sleep before an early morning flight. The first coach you could catch leaves the South Terminal at 01:50 and the North Terminal at 02:00. It arrives at the Heathrow central bus station at 03:05. The fare is 19.50 GBP. See www.nationalexpress.com for complete timetables and fares.

A couple of things, Daryl. First, there's no "s" in Gatwick. I expect that you (if you are arriving from the US) will be the thick end of 1 1/2 or 2 hours collecting luggage, clearing customs and immigration and finding the way out. That will make it approaching 2am when you're ready to find transportation to Heathrow. Most of the time you need 2 or 3 hours check in time there so you need to be at Heathrow for around 5:30. So you only have 3 and a half hours at best to get there in the middle of the night. ¶ The first National Express coach on Sunday morning isn't until 5 am which gets to LHR-T4 at 6am or so, so that's probably a non-starter. ¶ Gatwick Express runs all night into Victoria, then what's the plan from there? hmmm. I'm sure somebody else here will have an idea... maybe night buses or a taxi? I can't find a coach from Victoria to LHR.

Tim, you're probably right. I used the NX website, put in 0200 on 17th Oct and it popped up 0500. I asked earlier and it had none. I expect I've made an ooppsie.

I'm sure Tim is right, and that sounds like the best plan. in the unlikely event that there is no NE bus when you need it, you COULD do the Gatwick Express to Victoria, take a taxi to Paddington, and catch the first Heathrow Express at 5:10 am, which would put you to Heathrow in plenty of time. I'm sure the bus will work out, but if it doesn't you do have a fall-back option.
