Navigo Pass for 11 days, Fri-Tue for 2 people

More Navigo questions. We are traveling to/in Paris Aug 23-Sep 3rd (11 days = 3 Navigo Pass weeks) and are trying to figure out the most efficient/economical pass to get. We will be entering at CDG, and will want to go to Versailles, so 5 zones. Questions:

  1. In Rick's tips, he mentions that the Navigo Easy Pass is shareable. I can't find specific details on this. Can two people share a Navigo pass? It sounds like a photo id is needed, so how can it be shareable?
  2. For 11 days, (3 weeks per the Pass's validity days), would it make more sense to buy 1 monthly pass and share it, or 2 monthly passes?
  3. Or would it make more sense to buy 1 weekly pass for the full week for each person, and manage on a carnet of tickets for the partial weeks at either end?

Many thanks for any advice.

I believe you are confusing the Navigo Decouverte pass ( good for a week from Mon- Sun) with the Navigo easy card, which is the brand new pass that you buy and load (and reload as required) with the digital equivalent of metro/bus tickets.

The Decouverte pass covers RER, metro and bus transportation within the Ile de France area, so includes CDG and Versailles. It is a fixed price for the week and a photo is required. It can't be shared.

The Easy pass costs €2 for the card and you load it with whatever you think you might need, and can add more if/when you run out. Someone else can comment on whether you can share it, and what areas of the city are included

At present you can still buy the old paper t+ metro tickets and RER tickets.

Probably a combination of the Decouverte and the easy passes will serve you best. Go to Versailles when you are using the Decouverte pass.

You are confusing (easy to do) the new Navigo Easy Card, which is just loaded value card that will eventually replace the paper tickets with magnetic strips, with the Navigo Decouverte, which is an actual pass with your photo ID attached. It is only valid from Monday am to Sunday pm. So this would not work arriving on a Friday, they don't even sell them for the remainder of the week that late, and they would not be cost effective for only 2 days. But for the middle portion of the trip, Monday Aug 26 through Sunday Sept 1. So option 3 will be the way to go. Bring photo copies of you passport pictures reduced to 1 inch by 1 1/4 inch.

CJean and Sam, thank you for clarifying. Can you point me to a website for the Easy Pass? I couldn't find it on the RATP site.

Is it possible to buy the Easy Pass online? If not, can we buy it at CDG and use it to get into the city on RER?

Taking the RER from CDG isn't necessarily the best way to get to Paris. It depends on where you're staying, what time you arrive, how much luggage you have and whether you'll be jetlagged after a transatlantic flight.

If you can manage a flight of stairs and are staying near the same RER line and you're not too zonked, it's a cheap way to get to the city. If you have to transfer trains or, worse, use the metro, it can be miserable with luggage - especially if it's rush hour.

Thank you, Chani. I'm pretty sure the RER is our most direct option, but I'll double-check.
