My son and I have to transfer between Heathrow and Gatwick airports,we are traveling to France so we will not have any British pounds with us, we will use the National Express bus. My questions are:
1. should we reserve a bus ticket online
2.how do we pay for our bus tickets, will they except credit cards on the bus or is there a booth we have to find to pay for our ticket?
Thank you,
Eileen
I had to do the Heathrow-to-Gatwick by bus thing in July 2006. It was easy then. I got off the plane from Budapest, followed the signs to the Heathrow bus/coach terminal, stood in line, and told the lady I wanted the next bus to Gatwick. She took my credit card, I signed, and she told me where to wait. The bus arrived, I put my bag under the bus, and a long ride later, I arrived at Gatwick to meet my mother. The times and prices were on the National Express website, but I didn't buy a ticket on-line because I didn't know exactly what time I would need (plane delays and all). Good luck!
Buy your tickets online; go the the National Express website. I did this last year and it went very smoothly; they took my credit card number and I got a printout on my home printer. You save money this way, too. Sometimes the buses are full, so if you don't make your reservation in advance you may be waiting for a seat. Be sure to allow plenty of time after landing before your bus reservation. Passport control at Heathrow can take over an hour, so I would allow at least two hours after expected arrival. The bus station is at the airport, but can be quite a hike to get there. If you miss your bus, I think they will put you on a later bus. There is a ticket counter in the bus station. I would expect that they would accept credit cards, but don't know for sure.
