Arriving on a cruise to Naples and would like to see Sorrento. Anyone taken the train? Approx cost? How can I see schedules as I think this is a "private" train?

You can take a ferry from Naples to Sorrento. Definately more fun than taxi to train station and being in a seedy train station in Naples.

The Circumvesuviana train cost about 3€ two years ago. Think of it as a commuter train. You can take a bus from near cruise ships to train station.
It runs every 20 minutes or so.

Thanks all! The ferry sounds like an idea. Any info or experience on using this service from the cruise pier. How to get schedule and cost?
Can you do Sorrento and Positano by ferry in one day?

Do you have to be back on the ship that afternoon? If yes, what time do you disembark and what time do you need to return. You could be stretching it a bit to fit in Positano.
