I purchased tickets through Priceline and they said that the traveler's middle name was "optional." I didn't include it. But I recently read about a traveler who was denied entry to her flight because the boarding pass didn't include her middle name and she was travelling internationally. So am I. So does the ticket have to include the middle name that is on my passport?
Happens all the time. Most travelers make it to their destination. Most of the time, they don't even catch it.
I had the same dilemma last fall before leaving for Europe. I called the airline to see if I could have this straightened out before arriving at the gate. This was with British Airlines. The customer service representative that I spoke with did not feel that it would be a problem but did help me by making the correction so that my middle name was included on my ticket. Although I was told not to worry about it, and it probably would have not created a problem, I felt better knowing that I would not meet with a surprise at the airport.
I just did a mock booking on BA. There is no place to put your middle name in when booking. After booking when putting in "advance passenger information" there is a spot for it, but not when booking.
I just looked at our boarding passes from Lufthansa for Frankfurt to Denver last October. Neither my boarding pass nor Robin's had anything but first and last names, although my passport has my middle name and her passport has her middle initial. I'm pretty sure I included our middle name/initial when we booked. Anyway, we made it.
If you are referring to the indecent with WOW Airlines, they seem to have a reputation for doing that to people. It actually doesn't really matter, but some airlines over compensate because they are held financially responsible if they allow someone to board that won't gain entry on arrival. Now if your first and/or last name were not the same, it would be a problem. Or if you use a nickname or alternate name in general use (like your middle name instead of your first), then you must be sure to use your legal name as it appears on the passport.
