We are there now. Finding a taxi rank not always easy and they are not supposed to stop if hailed (they have for us once). But this free app works well, just like Uber. I have not put my credit card info in as I prefer to pay cash, but you can. The meter starts once you “hail” the cab so if it’s too far cancel and do it again. Cabs are cheap, especially for us as we are three travelers. The metro is worthless, half the stations are closed.

OK I exaggerated. But, this was from our very good RS tour guide on the Best of Rome tour. We were supposed to start by learning the metro. But with Republica, Spagna and Barberini closed it’s pretty much useless for many tourists and she told us to forget about it. We rode the bus today and if you want to experience crushing nose to armpit transportation then have at it. We will enjoy the taxi!
