my son is traveling in france and germany

I need travel suggestions (trains) on how my son (19 yrs. old) can travel from Rouen, France to the following in 6 days. Berlin, Erfurt, Stugart, Munich, Bonn. The last three are definates the other are just dreams. He will be in Rouen for 5 weeks attending summer school and has weekends free. I plan to by a 2 country Eurail pass. Should he take a weekend trip to Berlin. All ideas and suggestions welcomed. Location of train stations, hostel etc.

Stuttgart, Munich and Bonn are easy and doable as there are new high speed train connections between Paris Est station and Stuttgart (under 4 hours) from where he can change onto an ICE high speed train to Munich (90mins or so). For Bonn take Thalys from Paris to Cologne. The S-Bahn local train ride from Cologne to Bonn is some 30mins or so. For Berlin check airberlin.com and easyjet.com as their fares start from €19 one way incl. taxes. It's too far to take the train - for a weekend trip. Are you saying he wants to do Berlin to Erfurt to Bonn to Stuttgart to Munich and back to Rouen in a week?

I suggest that you allow your adult son to make these plans all by himself since he is the traveler involved. It will be good for him to learn these skills prior to the trip.

I think there is some validity to having your son doing some online research, mapping, etc. to learn travel skills. However, as a mother, I'd still look over his shoulder or show you what he has come up with so that you know that what he has planned is practical and safe.
