My name is wrong on my ticket. They did not correct it, just added "documentation." Should I worry?

Something weird happened with my air reservation & I'm worried it may cause trouble on the day I fly. I got a ticket from IAD to France using my United MileagePlus points. They booked me on their Star Alliance partners, Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa. When I checked the reservations online, my name is wrong on Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa but correct on United Airlines. The mistake is Brucebreidfjord Breidfjord Dimon which appended my middle name to my first name.

I contacted United Airlines & he said "I will add some documentation on the reservation to avoid cancelation from other airlines. The name will never be corrected but the documentation is enough that you will not get some issue by traveling." He also said "you need to call also other airlines for some options about the name correction."

I will contact the other airlines tomorrow. I fly in 2 months, so I have some time. Should I worry?

I wouldn't worry since you have plenty of time to correct it. This happened to me but it was discovered at the baggage check counter. I was ready to freak out as it was a transatlantic flight but they were able to call a manager and correct the situation in a very reasonable amount of time.

That is not a uncommon situation. Middle names are common used in many parts of the world so there is a tendency for first and middle names are added together for a strange first nanemid name.

Frank is right. Our middle names are often appended to the first names on our plane tickets. So far, no problems!

Let me just correct something Frank wrote which is just a typo....middle names are UNcommon in much of the world.

I would not worry, but please let us know what Lufthansa and Brussels Air say.

Ed, here's the update:
The Brussels Airline customer service representative said my first name must match my passport exactly and I would not be allowed to fly. He told me to call United Airlines and get it fixed.

I called United Airlines and told Maria about it. I pointed out that on United's MyTrip page, my name is Brucebreidfjord Dimon while on the itinerary page my name is Bruce Breidfjord Dimon. Maria said this is normal for United's system and they send names to their partners this way. A passenger with no middle name is sent as First Last but a passenger with a middle name is sent as Firstmiddle Middle Last.

Maria said this happens to everybody who books on United to fly on one of their partner airlines. She said the airport employees know and are okay with it. So, I won't worry about it, but I will allow an extra hour to check in.

Interesting. I would go with what United says and see what happens. Let us know.

Interesting. United runs my first and middle names together and then my last name on the tickets. My passport separates them as first name, middle name, last name. When I questioned them last year, United said their system could not separate first and middle names.
