My KLM flights now not landing at Malpensa - advice

Does anyone know what’s happening with KLM flights to Malpensa? I received this email this morning, and both of my flights going from Amsterdam to Malpensa and Malpensa back to Amsterdam are affected. If I change to Air France flights, will they also be changing over to Linate airport?

”We regret to inform you that your flight KLxxxx from Milan to Amsterdam has been rebooked because of operational reasons.”

”We have rebooked you to the first available alternative flight to Amsterdam. Your new flight will depart from Milan Linate Airport.”

”Your travel details and self-service options are available in My Trip….”

The flight isn’t until September, but the flight times given now don’t work to get my daughter home in time, plus i land at Linate late at night - not okay from a safety standpoint for me.

Okay so that sounds like it does not have to do with whatever is going on today--when flights are being moved to Linate.

If the change has made your itinerary untenable, then you must change. Good luck!

The same thing happened to us. We were booked on British Air to fly into Malpensa. Our flight was canceled and BA rebooked us on a flight into Linate. Our hotel is out near Malpensa, as are the friends we were going there to visit. Our flight is scheduled for mid May. Hmmm! I wonder what is going on????

Thank you for your quick replies! I was able to change flights with larger planes landing at and leaving Malpensa. I.e., coming in from JFK and leaving Italy, heading to Atlanta. Delta was very cooperative.

There may not be any issue with MXP. It is possible that they just finalized their schedule. They could have traded slots at MXP to a partner that flies long haul (e.g., Delta has added multiple flights to MXP this year). Linate only handles short haul flights.

Regardless, I’d just search on the KLM site (or whichever airline you booked with) to see if there is a better alternative. When you search, use the code MIL to see both flights to LIN and MXP. Once you find what works, call the airline to get your flight changed.

We had a flight planned out on May 5th also changed to Linate from MXP to Heathrow.

Looking at BA, they no longer had any flights out of MXP on BA that day to Heathrow.

It works as we had planned a last night in Milan to eat at one of our favorite restaurants.

I'm sure some of the construction is due to the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, which will use Malpensa as their hub airport. Gotta get that stuff done quickly - less than a year to go.

Glad Delta was able to work things out!
