Note: I had added this to someone else's thread on Icelandair but figured I would start my own.

Here's my two cents:
EWR to LHR: Opened my email the day of my flight to find that I was flying United instead of Icelandair. Worked out better b/c it was a nonstop flight to LHR and I got to sleep, plus a free meal and a muffin in the a.m. Only complaint about UA is that the plane was late leaving.
LGW to KEF: Flight was two hours late leaving, which caused stress about being able to catch my connecting flight to EWR. In addition to sitting and waiting at the gate at LGW, we were then routed through a hallway, where everyone was backed up and had to stand. I turned to a woman next to me and asked "Have you flown this airline before?" She said, "Yes, and it's always left on time. Never saw anything like this." Proceeded to a very narrow hallway (which did not help with my sense of claustrophia) and had to stand there too. KEF was madness. People all over the places, bathrooms at one of the airport and down stairs (I understand there are no lifts) and I didn't get to use them OR buy food because we all rushed to the gate, wanting to make the connecting flight. The gate got switched once. Lots of "hurry up and wait." Had to buy food on the plane because I could get any in the airport. Halfway through the flight, the entertainment system shut down on my side of the plane. They rebooted it, but then when I began to watch the program I had been viewing, the controls got stuck and I couldn't fast forward or stop or pause.
Seats in Economy Class began to bother my back after a while. United's were much more comfortable.
In its favor: Plane was clean, bathrooms on board were clean, staff was very helpful and polite. And of course it was cheap.
As a side note: Could someone please tell me if this is just typical of flying today (i.e. delays, airlines being switched, etc.?)
