Munich to Venice train

We will be traveling from Munich to Venice in September with a day in between check out from Munich and when we are scheduled to check in to our Airbnb in Venice. My question is that if we take the train, is there anywhere along the route that you would recommend hopping off the train and spending the night? We are up to staying anywhere on this extra travel day of our European adventure. We were going to rent a car and stay in Innsbruck but holy cow it's freaking expensive, so back to the train idea. Thank you

Bolzano and Verona are possible choices. Bolzano is almost exactly half way.

I would suggest Bolzano. Visit Utzi the ice man in the museum, take the Cable Car Renon to the top of the mountain and view the spectacular Dolomites. And there's also the train at the top.

Thank you for your responses. Bolzano looks great and I love the idea of the cable car, though my Hubby may have to be blind folded..lol.

Buy your tickets from Munich to Bolzano 3 months in advance to get the € 29,90 Sparpreis. That is less than half the regular fate of €68,70.

Then buy your tickets from Bolzano to Venice for the following day from Trenitalia to get a similar discount (Super Economy fare).

Yes to Bolzano (although I like Innsbruck, too). Depending on when you get to Bolzano, you could explore the handy little funicular that climbs right from town into Oberbozen.

Actually bahn.de now sells super saver tickets a full 6 months in advance! I bought some for our May trip in November. Don't know if you are interested in booking that far ahead, but just know that you can, when the time comes.

Thank you Shelly!! We are going in September and I'm one of those people that want as much booked and paid for as I can.
