Heading to Germany in March. Munich is our primary destination - and will go to Salzburg. My travel companion really wants to go to Triberg - to buy a cuckoo clock! I have read over the train schedules many times and am so confused! Is it possible to get to Triberg via train or should I rent a car? Your help is appreciated!!
Of course it's possible to get to Triberg via train. There are few places in Germany that you can't get to, or close to, by train. Germany has 5400 stations (one for every 5 mi sq area). Triberg is on a train line, called the Schwarzwaldbahn, that goes from Donaueschingen, near Villingen-Schwenningen to Offenburg, on the Rhein. The German Rail (Bahn) website shows one connection, leaving Munich at 11:02 AM, taking 4:49 with changes in Ulm, and Donaueschingen. The trip along the "young" Danube, from Sigmaringen to Donaueschingen is particularly scenic. In Ulm, I would suggest a longer stop to see, and maybe climb, the world's highest Gothic steeple. Also, Sigmaringen has an impressive Hohenzollern castle you can tour.
