Munich to Prague

I am trying to figure out the Bayern ticket. On some conversations, I see that the Bayern ticket has to be bought 3 days prior to departure. When I do a ticket query on Bahn.de, this does not seem to be the case. I just don't want to wait until the day of and go to the machine to purchase and find out it did have to be 3 days prior. Also, can the Bayern ticket be used from Munich to Prague? When I do a ticket query on db, the Bayern is not presented as an option. However, I have seen some conversations here that say you can use it. For instance, I am looking for a 9 am train to Prague on Tuesday. Thanks for any help.

A Bayern-Ticket can be bought right up to a few minutes before boarding a train. However, it will not cover your ride all the way to Prague. There is a non-stop express bus that is faster than the train. If you book it today on the German Rail site, you can get a Europa-Spezial Tschechien fare of €29.00. Depart at either 07:50 or 09:45.

Thanks for the info. I see now that I would also have to have an Anschluß ticket in addition to the Bayern ticket for after the Germany border. Germany has some excellent rail deals but you have to do your research. Thanks again!

A Czech Rail ticket, purchased at the border, will cost less than an Anschluß ticket from the Bahn. Last May I went from Zwiesel, in Germany, to Prague via Bayerisch Eisenstein (Zelezna Ruda). I was staying in the area, so I bought my ticket for Zelezna Ruda to Prague the day before from the ticket counter in the Czech half of the station at Bayerisch Eisenstein. It cost 273 Koruna, about 10-11 €. German Rail sells the ticket for 30€. I believe you could buy the Czech ticket on the train once you are in the CR. I saw people buying tickets from the conductor in May. There is also what is called the Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket, which is like a Bayern-Ticket, valid for regional trains all over Bavaria, but also includes part of the CR along the border, including Pilsen. You could buy the Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket from an automat, then try to buy the Pilsen-Prague (100 Kc, <5€) ticket from the conductor before you get to Pilsen. If not, get off in Pilsen and buy the ticket at the station.
