Munich to London question

My husband and I are talking about our spring 09 trip and have an idea but I'm not sure how possible it will be with time and cost. We've talked about going back to southern England and we've also talked about wanting to go back to Germany, but to Munich this time, it will all depend on the price we can get airfare at if we do one or both locations. We'll do a 13 day trip and wondered would it be possible to do both cities? Spend 5 full days in Munich and then the rest in London. Does anyone think this is possible? Can someone give advice on the best way to get between Munich and London at a reasonable price. We've always just stuck to one place but if it's possible we would like to do this.

5 days Munich and 8 days London is a "slow travel" kind of itinerary that should not be a problem at all. Many travelers here ("we're young and energetic") try to see 5 or 6 destinations in 13 days. So, your plan sounds good. Fly from London to Munich. Investigate whether it saves money to book your travel "open jaw" from Atlanta to Munich and London to Munich on a major airline and then on one of the discount airlines from Munich to London.

German Rail has a special called London-Spezial (unfortunately only described in German). Frankfurt to London is €79 one way per person and, via ICE and Eurostar, takes 6 hours downtown Frankfurt to downtown London, which is about as fast as you can do it going through Stanton or Luton.

There is also a Köln-London (5 hours) offer for €59. You might be able to get a Dauer-Spezial fare from Munich to Köln for €29.

These fares include everything. No extra fees for taxes, airport fees, checkin, checked baggage, etc like on the low cost airlines. And, you go from downtown to downtown - no extra fares by bus and train from remote airports.

By the way, the London-Spezial fare is shown as lasting through 13 Dec and the Dauer-Special through 31 Dec, but that is when they change the schedules. Check back after that date to see if they will still offer it next spring.
