Munich to Dachau

I thought we'd be able to go to Dachau directly from Marienplatz on the S2 subway without making any changes, but it looks like that's only possible Monday – Friday. Am I missing something? When I plug in the route on bahn.de or the Munich journey planner for the date we're going (Saturday, Nov. 16), it looks like our only option is to go from Marienplatz to Munich Hbf and then change to the S2 there to get to Dachau. Has anyone recently taken the S2 directly from Marienplatz to Dachau without any changes on a weekend? Not a huge deal if we have to change, but want to figure out the most efficient way of getting there. From the Dachau station we'll take Bus 726 to the Memorial. Thanks for any insight!

Dawn, what you have heard is correct . You must take the S bahn to Hauptbahnhof and switch there to the S2 . It is very easy to do and is necessary due to ongoing tunnel work . We did just this about ten days ago .

Or just walk to the Hauptbahnhof. At most, it's about 10-15 minutes from Marienplatz.

We'll be coming by train from Salzburg that morning, so since we have to connect through Munch Hbf to get to Dachau anyway, I think we'll just store our luggage in the lockers, go to Dachau, and then come back through Munich hbf, collect our luggage, and then head to our Marienplatz pension. Thanks for the help!

"You must take the S bahn to Hauptbahnhof and switch there to the S2" The S2 is an S-Bahn. None of the S-Bahn are running between Marienplatz and the Hbf from late Friday night to early Monday morning. I think you mean take the U-Bahn (two actually, with a change in Sendlingertor or Odeonsplatz) to the Hbf. Alternatively, you can also take the #19 tram from Theatinerstr., a couple of blocks behind the Rathaus, to the Hauptbahnhof. There is also a substitute bus (SEV) between most of the tunnel stations, except it uses Odeonsplatz rather than go into Marienplatz, which is a pedestrian zone. During this time, the S-2 uses a track in the main hall of the Hbf, not the underground (tief) station.

@Lee ,Sorry for creating a confusion , of course , you are absolutely correct .We were staying in Schwabing , and took the U6 to Marienplatz and switched there to the S bahn . It was at that point that we learned of the alteration in the weekend schedule necessitating going upstairs to the main station to connect with the S2 to Dachau. Sorry for being unclear .
