I believe that my options are via Zurich or via St Gallen. Which is the easiest (i.e. not having to walk great distances) when it comes to making transfers and train connections?

The timetables on the German Rail site show Munich-St Margrethen-Chur as the fastest route with the fewest connections. Besides, if you book that route on that site well in advance (up to 92 days allowed), you can get a Savings fare as low as €39.
