Munich to Budapest with floods??

My daughter (11) and I fly into Munich this Mon 10 Jun. we were planning on taking train to Salzburg for 2 nights before heading to Budapest. Now that I see the flooding/disruption to train service, I'm trying to figure alternate plans! How can I get from Munich to Budapest with Salzburg impacted? I figue two extra days in Budapest or somewhere along the way is better than flooded Salzburg!! Any suggestions?? Thx, Deanna

Oddly, despite the heavy flooding down by the river in Passau, rail traffic seems to be moving through the town (the station is on higher ground). There are connections from Munich by RE to Plattling, changing there to ICEs via Passau to Vienna. Trains seem to be moving normally between Vienna and Budapest (both cities are on the Danube!). Use the German Rail (Bahn) website for schedules. Use Plattling as a stopover to force the northen route.

Thx! After trying to change my flight to Budapest ($1,700 for two of us), I decided to stay in Munich the first night and booked a ticket to Budapest, which seems to route thru Passau now. Luckily, we've been to Salzburg, so not too disappointed in missing that stop (although I feel terrible for the residents!!). My daughter has not been to Budapest, so now we have four full days instead of three :-)). Gotta be flexible when we travel!

The latest I got on the flooding heading for Budapest is that the river will crest on the 10th at an elevation about 6 inches higher than the Pest embankment. I don't have a topographic map and I am no authority on this sort of thing but I can't imagine the waters spreading further inland on the Pest side than a block or so. The Buda embankment always seemed lower to me so I wouldn't want to be staying at the Art'otel for instance and that trip up the Funicular to castle hill might not be possible but otherwise I wouldn't hesitate to go to Budapest. I was going to offer up accommodations to the first stranded traveler that asked but I don't think that will even be necessary. And I sort of suspect the crest will subside within a day or two. Deanna, since you have a few extra days if you need ideas let me know and I will see what I can find. Ghost is playing at the Operett Theater. It's one I haven't seen yet, but I hear it's very good.
