Munich to Amsterdam night train

Hi,

I am on the bahn.de website looking to book a sleeper, but I am confused by the wording in the sleeper description as it could be interpreted two ways.

"Depending on the night train, you have the choice between compartments with 1, 2 or 3 berths. You can decide yourself how many people you would like to share the compartment with. The sleeper car area is divided by sex, so if you are travelling with your partner, you will have to occupy your own compartment. If you are travelling alone in the sleeper car, single occupancy would then be
required."

Our party will be one girl and two guys...will we be able to stay together in a triple? Or will one of us be required to stay as a single (which seems silly)? The triple is available for our trip so I'm hoping to choose that option.

Thanks!

Jody...I think the train you're referring to is the CNL overnight train #318. I think that, for sleepers (nice berths), you're limited to single cabins in both economy and deluxe class on this train, so the comments about 2 and 3-person sleepers don't apply here. The other sleeping accommodations you have on this train are four- and six-person couchettes, which are more like bunk beds than berths....smaller and more cramped, but OK if you're not too large a size. I don't think couchettes on this run are gender-specific, but Tim or one of the other regulars can comment on that. Your best bet, if that's the case, might be to book 3 in a 4-person couchette cabin, and hope the fourth spot isn't used!

There are three-bed sleepers on CNL 318. If you book the entire cabin, you can mix genders. If you want to save some money, do as Norm suggests and book three bunks in a four-person couchette.

To get the best fare, book well in advance (up to 90 days allowed) at www.bahn.de and look for Saving-Night fares and Europa-Spezial Niederlande fares.
