Hi, everyone I want to make sure I understand how these tickets work and that my plan to use them is on track, so to speak :-). Here's my plan and questions: Day 1: Munich: Nymphenburg and museums, then late afternoon train to Fuessen and bus to Hohenschwangau. I think a Bayern Laender ticket will cover my travel in Munich all day after 9 AM, to Fuessen on the train, and the bus to Hohenschwangau (where I'm staying overnight). Is that correct? Day 2: I plan to visit the castles in the morning and then take the bus to Linderhof Schloss and then from there to Oberammergau. I think an RVO tagesticket will cover all these bus rides. Is that correct? Two more questions:
Can I buy the Bayern ticket before 9 AM (I know I can't use it until after that)? Do I buy the RVO tagesticket on the bus? Just ask for a tageskarte? Is it good for such long distance rides? I have been reading and checking schedules and feel comfortable with the timing, but I wanted to make sure I understand how these work so I don't pay for local transit tickets I don't need. Thanks, Lexey
1. Yes You can buy a ticket in advance. I found it useful to print out the intermediate stops of the rain rides so that I knew when my stop/transfer was coming up.
1. Correct 2. Correct. by the way, an RVO bus goes from Füssen to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It stops at Hohenschwangau on it's way out of town and at Oberammergau about half way. The bus to Linderhof goes from Oberammergau. You can buy the Bayern-Ticket any time. If you buy it from an automat, it will give you the choice of "heute" (today), "morgen" (tomorrow), or "andere" (other). If you pick andere, it will display a calendar, and you can pick a date. Yes, you can buy the RVO Tagesticket on the bus. For 9,50. It covers the entire RVO network except for some parts outside of Germany. I told the driver I wanted a "Tageskarte" and he said, "for the train?" So I changed it to "Tagesticket", and he sold me the pass for the bus. Last week I went from Berchtesgaden to Frasdorf, near Rosenheim, on the bus. Six or seven hours, 5 connections, all with one RVO Tagesticket.
Thanks, Stephen and Lee. That answers all my questions--and thanks for the terminology tip, Lee. It's just hard to believe that those special tickets are for real :-).
