Munich Customs

My airline booked me on a connecting flight through Munich with only an hour between the time my flight arrives from the US into Munich and then leaves for Prague. Is this enough time? How is passport control/customs in Munich?

Can't speak for the customs in Munich but last November the customs in Frankfurt took about an hour. Very thorough...even took me into a dressing room and checked under my clothes. First time for me.

When you land in Munich you will also have to go through a complete security screening in addition to the immigration check.

Having only an hour is cutting it too close. If your plane arrives late into Munich you will have even less time. So, the answer to your question is NO.

It sounds a little close, but it's entirely possible you'll make it. Trans-Atlantic flights often arrive early, and Munich's airport isn't that big. If you don't make it, it should be easy enough to get on a later flight, too, unless you are flying at particularly busy time. Passengers who don't make connections are given priority rebooking.

I have to do this all the time.

I fly from Birmingham in England to Germany and on to Prague.

In Gernamy I have the choice of going through either Frankfurt or Munich.

I always choose Munich.

In Frankfurt it's impossible to do a 60 minute connection. Munich is different. It's very easy to make a 60 minute connection at Munich. Munich airport is much smaller and very well designed. I've done this route with a colleague who holds a USA passport and she made it through with enough time for a beer in the bar before we flew on to Prague.

Munich works the way airports SHOULD work. The staff are efficiant, friendly and helpful. The airport is designed to assist passengers, not confuse or hinder them. It's the only place where the staff seem to be on the side of the honest traveller who's in a hurry.

If your airline booked the entire ticket, both flights, all the way to Prague, then they will get you there. I just hope you don't have to change terminals. The two terminals are parallel, some distance apart.

When I flew into Munich last October, there was the typical 5-10 min line for passport control, but all I had was a carryon, so after passport control, I was gone.

I don't know how fully integrated into Schengen Czech Republic is. In theory your bags should be checked through all the way to Prague, and you shouldn't have to go through any customs in Munich. But I don't know if they do that yet.

I recently flew into Munich with a 45minute layover. We were concerned but had no problem. On the way back we again had a 45 layover. However before we left we were informed that because our flight time changed and we only had 40 minutes they were putting us on another flight because they wont allow less than 45.Only 5 minute difference. This was on Lufhansa.
