Multi day train pass in Germany?

Four of us will be staying outside Munich near the airport for four consecutive days in early December. We will be traveling to Munich and back all four days. We will travel to Munich and then on to Salzburg for three days, then back to Munich the day before we leave.

Is there a multi-day train ticket we can purchase to cover these trips, or at least the four round trips to Munich? On arrival, we will also be taking the train from the airport to our hotel.

You don't express a need for in-city transit, or other S -Bahn trips besides the two daily airport runs. It's a big city. We also need to know if you 4 will be making every ride together, or if you will split up during the day. That's because there are bargain day-tickets for groups of up to 5.

Any chance it would save money to stay in town?

Not a multiday pass, but individual day passes for groups of 2 to 5 people. Price depends on what zone your hotel is. For instance, if your hotel is in Freising, that is in zone 4, so a group day pass is 27.40 EUR.

To go to Salzburg, you should use a Bayern Ticket, which would cost 64 EUR for 4 people. That covers transportation to and from Salzburg. Since the Bayern Ticket is only valid after 9 am on weekdays, you should go on a Saturday or Sunday so you can get an early start. Only to be used on S-Bahns, U-Bahns, buses, trams, and regional trains. No ICE or EC trains.
