Most inexpensive European city to fly into?

I realize that's probably a loaded question as that will vary between originating cities but if anyone has found a city that seems to be particularly affordable, I would appreciate the suggestion.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Thus far, Dublin has been the most inexpensive, by about $100.

I've always found the best deals into Dublin or London (from Chicago).

actually - many say that Dublin or Shannon are the cheapest to fly into (unless you have specials on certain lines to certain destinations at certain times of year... ex: LAX to Munich = 250$ in Feb vs $1250 in summer!) But if youre itenerary allows for local commuter airlines like Ryan etc... I know some folks that always pref AerLingus to Dublin/Shannon and then hop over to London, Paris, etc from there.

You just need to come up with a plan - then look at the costs of direct flights or smaller connector flights (and trains!)

If you do fly into Dublin, consider Aer Lingus as well as Ryanair, for your onward journeys....it will help widen your choice of destinations. Aer Lingus has recently transformed itself into a "discount airline" and offers competetive fares to many European cities, without the luggage restrictions and costs imposed by Ryanair. Again, check Ryanair's policies very carefully....that one pence air fare may work out to the same cost as other discount airlines, once taxes, surcharges, baggage fees, and checkin fees are taken into account. Also, Ryanair tends to fly into remote airports, meaning another charge for a bus ride to get into a city. For example, they fly into "Paris Beauvais" airport, which is actually a 90 minute bus ride from northwestern Paris...they drop you off at a huge bus parking lot just inside the northwest corner of the Paris ring road.

According to their website, Aer Lingus has a 6kg (13#) carry-on limit. That is why they are on my "no fly" list.

Ryan Air has a 22# carry-on limit, but you'd better only have a carry-on, 'cause they charge $10 for the first checked bag, $20 each for the 2nd and 3rd bag.

We just flew Ryan Air on the 14th, and they did not charge us anything for ONE piece each of checked luggage. Anything over that, and watch the dollars pile up!

You need to watch the bagge weight limits!, and also the size limits on your carry on.

We loved Ryan Air.........great prices.

Under the heading "Table of Fees" - "Checked Baggage" on the Ryanair website, they state that there is a £5 ($10) fee for the first checked bag and £10 each for up to two more. That's if you book through ryanair.com. If you book at the airport it's twice that. They might not have charged you the last time (it might not have been effective then), but they can now and you can't complain, because it's shown on the website.

Also, the checked baggage limit is 15 kg (33#). Anything over that is £5,50 per kg (about $3.75/lb).

There is also a £2 fee if you check in at the airport rather than online.

You can find all this information under "Travel Questions" on www.ryanair.com.
