The end came so fast, my original comments were moot within hours

As of now WOW Airlines has ceased operations. Can't say I'm surprised as the prices they were charging were too low for overseas flights. Feel sorry for anyone with tickets.

Honestly, the end of operations for WOW Air is not terribly surprising to anyone who has been following the WOW saga over the last several months -- or, for that matter, to anyone who has been following the saga of discount transatlantic carriers over the last 2 years.

The story of WOW's demise has been unusually interesting with the history of failed suitors, but the reality is that no one has figured out how to make discount transatlantic flights profitable. Indigo either got cold feet with its plan to feed WOW with European and US discount carriers (Frontier's flight map lined up very poorly with the cities WOW served), or it discovered that WOW was in such shambles that it was not investment worthy.

To those who stated or implied that my previous posts of caution related to WOW were fear-mongering (including when I said the Indigo "deal" was not a deal until it was finalized), let the evidence show that those posts were a fair warning.

The important moral to this story is... If you are buying air tickets to Europe from an airline that consistently sells them in the $500 range for a round trip itinerary, you are getting a cheap ticket at the risk that the airline will go bust before you can fly on it.

Laker Airways (Skytrain), People Express & others, anyone? Get that travel insurance on any airline price seems too good to be true!

true!

That's the function of a good credit card, like AMEX. I don't see the need to buy separate insurance just for a flight ticket - it's like taking the savings from that cheap flight ticket and seeing it evaporate into the pocket of some insurance company.

A good travel card like Amax? I’m sitting here laughing. Perhaps the worst service I’ve ever with credit card company in the event of a problem was from that company. Yes get a good credit card just don’t buy one from American Express

They spend more time looking for rolls to make sure you are entitled to anything but actually helping you

I heard about it this morning, in news from radio. Thousands of people are stranded at airports in various countries, because they have tickets for Wow airlines flights, but Wow airlines suddenly canceled all flights, permanently. Wow !

If it seems to good to be true, it is. People got what they paid for.

It was good for me while it lasted I made it flying them unscathed;
I got some great inexpensive vacation memories from France Summer 2017, France Winter 2018, Germany Spring 2018 and Spain Winter 2019 flying Wow Airlines. It was never for the high maintenance nervous traveler.

Thankfully they were nice enough to stop flying from O'hare January 2019 so I was not tempted buy another ticket for my Spring trip.

Same here. When I had rental car damage in 2015 in Croatia, Amex "Assurance" screwed me and never paid my claim.

We had two sets of one way tickets through WOW for our upcoming trip to Europe. The trip starts mid-May, so a lot of the deals with the other airlines for WOW customers aren't valid. Even better, our credit card company (a major US bank) doesn't cover trip cancellation due to financial insolvency. It is our first time ever using WOW and we are sort of kicking ourselves for not following the news on WOW a bit closer, but what can you do. At least we weren't some of the many who got stranded in the middle of a trip. Now I suppose it's time for us to go and switch credit card companies.
