I will be traveling to Monvemvasia, Greece from Athens to attend a wedding in June of 2019 - I then would like to take a ferry to the south of Italy without going back to Athens and enjoy Sorrento, Amalfi and etc. Any ideas how to get there and where to stay in Italy?
The KTEL Lakonias operates a bus from Sparti to Patras four times per week. From Monevasia to Sparti there are four buses daily. Take the ferry to Brindisi or Bari and proceed by train.
Given the complexity of your proposed journey--- https://www.rome2rio.com/map/Monemvas%C3%ADa/Sorrento----
why do you want to avoid Athens and a fairly simple 1 stop flight to Naples and then land transport to Sorrento or where ever on the AC you choose ?
I agree with Joe. You can fly from Athens to Rome in less than 2 hours, for under $100. And then take a train or bus to Sorrento.
Otherwise, the combination of buses, ferries and trains will eat up a couple of days and much more than $100.
Just curious -- since you're already in Greece, have you considered staying there and visiting some lovely Greek places instead of traveling to Italy? Monemvasia is just a couple of hours from Nafplio, which is a favorite seaside destination for many travelers on this forum. Or you could visit some islands. Lots of possibilities depending on your time and interest.
Any towns around Monvemvasia you would suppust I stay before going to the wedding? Between Athens andn on the way?
Nafplio is on the way and a pleasant place to spend some time
Best way to get to Monemvasia from Athens? How far? how long a ride, train, bus, etc?
There is no train. Buses are operated by the regional bus organization KTEL Lakonias. There are at least four buses on work days. Look up their timetables (can be set to English).
