Montmarte region to CDG

Dumb question that I can't quite get the answer for....

My Metro pass will have expired by the day we are returning to the airport. I will be at the Montmarte area of Paris, near the Blanche Metro station. The RER leaves from the Gare du Nord a few Metro stops away, or a half hour walk. I know the Metro routes to get to the RER station. One is Blanche exiting at LaChapelle, then walking to the Gare du Nord. A second is Blanche->Barbes, change lines and ride to the Gare du Nord. Once at Gare du Nord take the RER to the airport.

My question is - do I buy the ticket just for the Metro to go to Gare du Nord, then buy the RER ticket there? Or, can I buy the one ticket for the entire trip when I go into the Blanche Metro station? Every website I research is not as clear as I would like, but I think the answer is Yes I can, but I have to use the ticket within a certain time frame before exiting at the Airport turnstile with the ticket??

I would like to just buy one ticket to speed things up, since I am trying to make a non refundable flight to Geneva. If time is an issue, I will spend the 50 Eurors for the cab, but if I have time, I would prefer the train.

You can buy one ticket for the RER, and it will include your metro fare. Just keep the ticket handy, and be prepared to insert it into various turnstiles along the way as you make your transfers from the metro to the RER, and again to exit the RER.

You can get your ticket all the way at Blanche, but make sure you buy a ticket to CDG. An ordinary Metro ticket will not take you out that far.

What Harold and Philip said. Go into Blanche station, buy an RER ticket to CDG, and it will cover you for your metro trip and RER trip. Be sure to hang onto your ticket, because you'll use it to get IN to Blanche station and again IN to the RER station at Gare du Nord, and finally again OUT at CDG.

Also to note: you can buy the ticket ahead of time and just keep it with you and then only USE it when you're making the trip to the airport (if you don't want to mess with buying the ticket the day you're traveling).

If you follow Kim's advice to pre-buy the airport ticket (which I agree with), just be careful not to mix it up with any regular T-1 metro tickets. It will look pretty much the same (same size and color) and you have to look at it carefully to see the difference.
