MonteCassino

We would like to see the Abbey of Monte Cassino where one of the war's toughest battles took place. Since we are travelling by public trasport, is there a hotel or B&B near the train station that someone would recommend.

I don't know about accomodations in the city itself (though I've seen hotels along the road leading into Cassino from the north), but the amount of time you'll be spending visiting the abbey will not constitute spending a night in the city. Cassino itself has nothing of interest or importance since it was completely destroyed during WW2 & was rebuilt after, making it fairly modern compared to the rest of Italy's ancient cities, towns, & villages. The abbey can be visited in a few hours on your way through Cassino.
