My wife and I want to take the train and bus from Paris to Mont St. Michel for a day trip but would like to see Mont St. Michel at sunset. I understand that is one of the prettiest times to be there. The problem is the last train from Pontorson to Paris apparently is around 7 pm, which would cut out any evening time at MSM. Does anyone know if there is bus service to Paris later than the train? If we rent a car, how difficult is it to drive back to Paris at night or is there a drop off before Paris so we could avoid city driving? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
You won't be able to get to Paris by bus. Because of the SNCF monopoly there is no long distance bus service WITHIN France. There are regional buses in some parts of France and international buses like Eurolines.
According its Web site, AutoEurope has after hours drop off boxes at 8 ave Foch which is a little ways east of the Peripherique ring road and close to the Charles de Gaulle Etoile Metro station and at 5 ave d'Italie which is a little ways north of the Peripherique and close to the Place d'Italie Metro station. In either case you wouldn't have to drive very far from the Peripherique to the drop off point.
