Mont St. Michel to Charters

Hi all! I've done some research on getting from Mont St. Michel to Chartres on a Sunday via public transportation, but it isn't going great. Anyone know a good way to do this? Is it even possible? I know I could drive a rental car from Mont St. Michel to Rennes to catch a train to Chartres but if I didn't have to rent a car I didn't want to. I also couldn't find anyplace in Chartres to drop a rental car so I could go that route instead. Ideas? Thanks!!

If you are not going to rent a car then the only way is to take a series of trains and a bus all operated by SNCF
Search https://en.oui.sncf/en/ if you have not already. It lays out all the options.
Oh yeah and the transit schedule is only set through 2nd week of January 2020.

Posts on this forum frequently mention that it is difficult to find car-rental locations that are open on Sundays. You might have to drop the car at an airport or keep it until Monday morning.

Well, it looks like I can pick a car up in Bayeux and drop it in Chartres, but it is almost $300 for 24 hours? Anybody else think this is outrageous? Any other suggestions??

I have no idea what is typical for short-term rentals in Europe, but that does sound exorbitant. Have you checked with the consolidators? Try AutoEurope, Kemwel and Gemut.

I would say the the combination of the bus to Rennes, the train to Le Mans (or Paris) and another train to Chartres should be OK even on a Sunday. I checked for this Sunday : Travel time four to five hours, vs over three by road.

Balso is right, that isn’t really that bad.

Keep in mind that Sundays are the most difficult travel days (the least frequent service). It is what it is.
