Does anyone know of a means of public transportation from Mons to Gap (bus, rail, air?) Thanks.

It requires a few connections, but you can take trains all the way. There is a direct night train from Paris to Gap. For timetables, go to www.bahn.de and click on the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner for English. After you get summary timetables for Mons-Gap, click on "Details for all" to see the connecting points.
