We have round trip tickets for an Air France flight from Nuernberg to Paris, leaving Monday and returning Friday. Because of an unexpected death we cannot use the outbound flight. We have decided to get to Paris later by train, but want to still use the return flights. We got a great price on these flights, so I don't mind losing use of the first one. We are worried this may affect our return flight. Question...should we check in online for the Monday flight and just not show up? Or better to do nothing, and just show up Friday and hope for the best? Anybody ever deal with this? Would appreciate any advice.
You need to call Air France to see if they will allow you to change the outbound due to a death. If you don't take the outbound flight, even if you check in, your entire ticket will be canceled.
I agree, call to cancel (or change) the outgoing flight and see what they can give you as options. If you do nothing or don't show up they will cancel the return.
And it is a good possibility that Air France may want to charge you for a one way fare. It could be cheaper to pay the change fee and use the ticket.
I have been trying to contact Air France. I haven't been able to reach the US number with either a US cell phone or a German handy. I'll have to wait until open hours tomorrow morning to try the German contact number. I guess that makes the most sense. Thanks for your replies.
