Is my Eurail pass valid for these trains running between the 5 towns of Cinque Terre? Or do I need to buy tickets?
Daryl,
As you'll probably be travelling to the Cinque Terre from somewhere else (ie: Rome or Florence), you'll be using one day on your Rail Pass anyway. Therefore, you won't have to buy an extra ticket for the trip on the local C.T. train.
These trains are operated by Trenitalia so your pass is good on them. However, fares are very cheap. If you have a Select Pass, you might want to buy point-to-point tickets and save pass days for longer rides.
From one end to the other of the CT takes only 15 minutes on the "milk run" train and the cost is E2.10. Intermediate stops would be even less or you might even be able to use one ticket for the whole trip. Seems foolish to use a day of your pass when the point to point tickets are so inexpensive.
Thanks for the answers.
Ken, indeed, I will be using my pass day already so I will use it for the trains within CT as well.
Thank you.
If you are going to be in the CT for several days and don't want to use your Eurail pass, there is a special pass that is good only in the Cinque Terre. It's good on all trains from La Spezia to Levanto and all trails and mini-buses in the towns. It's called the Cinque Terre card and you can purchase it almost anywhere in the CT including the TIs (information centers).
