milano to paris

My friend and I are going from Milan to Paris, any suggestions on the train route we should take? Looking for a cheap scenic trip (for40+ year olds). Using Ricks really handy guide I think we are better of buying single tickets for our romp around Italy but am stuck on the Milan/Paris leg. Love Rick and teams guides.

There is a French TGV high speed train from Milano Porta Garibaldi direct to Paris Gare de Lyon via Torino and Lyon. Departures at 06.00, 08.50 and 16.10. A dummy booking for an 08.50 departure at the end of July shows me the last few seats available at €55. You can book that on http://en.voyages-sncf.com/ and print your own ticket at home. Otherwise probably the best route is a Eurocity service from Milan to Basel or Lausanne, then a TGV from there to Paris. You can see these options if you use the journey planner on www.bahn.com and specify Milan and Paris as your origin and destination, but you can't buy the tickets on there. Try the journey planner on www.trenitalia.com to see prices and buy tickets for the Milan to Lausanne or Basel leg - I can see fares of €90 to Basel and €68 to Lausanne at the end of July.
