Milano to Florence by train

10 of us arrive in Milano @ 8:50 am. Can we buy the one way tickets to Florence upon our arrival? And once we get to the Florence station, we need to get to our villa (Casa Rossa in Lastra a Signa. Any advice? Do we need to do anything before we arrive regarding these transfers? Also, we leave on Sat. 9/25 out of Milano at 10:20 am. Will the trains run early enough for us to take a train very early that am, or would you advise overnite in Milano to catch the flight.

1) Yes you can buy tickets to Florence when you arrive.

2) If that flight out of Milano is an international flight, you will want to be at the airport about 3 hours early. I doubt you will be able to get from Florence to Milan to the airport by 7:20am and the inconvenience/hassle of what you would have to do if you miss your flight is not worth it.

Did a quick check of the train schedules--looks like the fastest train is 1 hr, 45 mins (costs 52 euro for second class) and the first departure is at 7am. You don't have enough time.

No advice on the villa, sorry.

It is also about an hour from the Central train station in Milan via shuttle bus to the airport. You will need to come to Milano the night before. Since you are returning to Milano why not buy RT tickets? What am I missing in this discussion?

Whoever you are renting the villa from is the best place to get advice on how to get there.

EuroStar Italia trains from Milano to Firenze S.M.N. depart once/hour at 15 minutes past the hour, and arrive in Firenze on the hour. The ride takes 1hr45min. Regional trains from Firenze S.M.N. to Lastra a Signa depart once/hour at 27 minutes past the hour. The ride takes 16 minutes.

I have no idea what it would cost to take a taxi rather than a train from Firenze diredtly to your villa or what it would cost to take a taxi from the Lastra a Signa train station to your villa. As Jeff said, ask the villa owner for advice.

There is rail service (the Malpensa Express) from downtown Milan to Malpensa airport. It leaves from Milan's Cadorna station, not Milan Central. Cadorna is just a few stop away from Milan Central on the green line. The Malpensa express takes about ½ hour from Cadorna to the airport. It looks like a train leaves Cadorna at 7:00, getting to the airport at 7:36.
