We booked our flight on Air One from Boston to Milan. The site had a warning that the plane could change from Malpensa to Linate. If we are picking up our rental car at the airport, will that be a problem for us? Does anyone know how far apart the airports are? thanks
According to the following website (http://www.airwise.com/airports/europe/MXP/MXPtran1.html), there are 11 buses daily from Malpensa to Linate. First bus leaves at 7:50am and the last bus leaves at 00.25. Fare is 8Euro. I assume they go in reverse as well and that the departure times would be different.
The airports are quite some distance from each other. Malpensa is outside Milan almost 30 miles. Linate is at the outskirts of the city- on the opposite side!
If you fly into Linate, you are lucky - it's smaller, easier to get around, and there is a quick bus service to the main train station if needed. However, there is no train service to either airport or between the airports, you will have to take the bus to transfer from Linate to Malpensa if you do end up flying there.
I would call the auto rental agency and explain the problem. If you give them your flight number and date, they can provide your car at the correct terminal.
If they balk at that, insist on their doing it. If they won't, cancel and rent from another agency.
Don't even consider moving from one terminal to the other to accommodate the rental agency.
The exact same 11 car rental companies have locations at both Malpensa and Linate airports. I'd be surprised if they wouldn't let you change pick-up location should Air One change the arrival airport. Hopefully, you'd be alerted to the change prior to the departure date so you could call and adjust your reservation.
