Middle Name

I have been told that our airline tickets must include the middle name as well as the correct first and last names as listed on our passports...is there any truth to this? Our tickets have all been purchased with just first and last name to match our passports. Thanks in advance!

The new rules say that over time, the name on your ticket must match the name on your government-issue ID (i.e Passport). We've had discussions on this. At this time, there is "give" on the middle name. There could be a middle initial or no middle name or initial. The following is a link to the TSA website that describes this.

As long as the first and last name on the ticket match the passport you will be fine on tickets already purchased. The new requirements won't take affect until early fall ticket sales per American Airlines. I am travelling in Sept and ticket was purchased several months ago and they assured me it would be fine. Eventually, they will require middle name, DOB, and sex on each ticket.

You'll be fine. Eventually the name on your ticket must match exactly to the name on your government I.D. If that I.D. does not have your middle name, then your ticket won't need it. If it does, then the ticket will.

When I get my new passport, I'm having them take my middle name off just to make life easier.

But then with TSA, nothing is easy.

Here is the answer from the TSA blog.

......For the near future, small differences between the passenger’s ID and the passenger’s reservation information, such as the use of a middle initial instead of a full middle name or no middle name/initial at all, should not cause a problem for you. ......

Don't worry about any tickets that are already purchased. The new rule is being phased in. Next time you buy tickets, it's wise to purchase the ticket in the same name as the photo ID you will use to board the plane. For international, that's your passport. For domestic, it may be your driver's license.

I'll be buying tickets as Bradley rather than Brad from now on.
