Michelin Maps for Provence

I'm traveling to Provence in June of this year and will be renting a car. I need to purchase some road maps for the region and am having trouble determining which ones I will need. We don't have an agenda for Provence yet, but I'd like to include the traditional Provencial area (Arles, Avignon, the Cote du Rhone) but we may decide to take a trip to the the French Riveria, and I'd also like to include the Gorge du Verdon as well, just in case.

From the viamichelin website, the local maps grid for France is difficult to read. I'm thinking probably maps #340 & #332. Are there any other maps that I should look into purchasing before I go? Thanks for your help.

You're looking at the 1:150000 series and would need several others just to be safe.

The 1:200000 series will serve your needs just as well and you'll only need two: 526 and 527.

You might also want to consider just getting the France Motoring Atlas (also 1:200000) which covers the whole country (you might go somewhere else next time) and is easier to use in a car (no folding, blocking windshield mess) and lasts longers since it's not being wadded and refolded all the time.

Thanks. Is the France Motorola map by Michelin as well?

Yes, sorry. The whole subject was Michelin. I've got a bunch of each, but the motoring atlas is the 2002 version and has made a couple of dozen trips and is still holding up.

Correct full name is "France Tourist and Motoring Atlas" on mine.

We now only use our own GPS, but we used to use maps, alot. We were told by friends in France to wait until we get there and buy regional maps, and they really are better... more detailed and larger and easier to read. You can get them anywhere... ask in your hotel. We bought maps in a stationary shop in Avallon which really showed the Morvan Forest in detail and one for Burgundy that showed more of the back roads...more scenic. In Isle sur le Sorgue we bought ones for the Provence area.We also got ones for the Var.. where the Gorges de verdun are. It is just like anything else... I would not buy a map of Ohio in Europe and they really do have better maps of their areas.
