I will be visiting Menaggio. When leaving Menaggio I will be visiting Lucerne, Interlarken, Zurich. My reason for asking the question is I don't want to waste time if an easy way is available to me. Also I have a bag to consider. Questions Should I take the Ferry to Varenna Esino and then take the Train and go to Interlaken then after my stop go onto Lucerne, Zurich Or am I better to take the Bus from Menaggio to Lugano and go to Lucerne, then onto Zurich
Does the train start at Milan Central for Varenna Esino, to Interlaken Bernina Express is the best place to do this from Varenna Esino Thanks

Margaret are you considering doing all the journey to Zurich from Menaggio via all those places in one day? If not, how long do you have for that portion of your trip? The best answers will depend on that. Also, what time of year?

Your desire to see Interlaken is the sticking point. If you take the bus west to Lugano, you can take a 2hr30min train to Lucerne via the Gotthard tunnel. You would have to backtrack 2hrs to get to Interlaken via the Golden Pass scenic train or Regional trains on the same tracks. This routing does not stop at Interlaken on the way to Lucerne. If you take the Bernina Express, you won't be anywhere near Interlaken. From Chur, Interlaken is 3.5hrs away via Zurich, Bern and Spiez.

Nigerl, Larry, Thanks so much for your input I am stopping in Menaggio for 7 Days where I will do Bernina Express from Tirano My intentions are to Leave Menaggio go to Lugano then on to Lucerne stay 2 Nights. Lucerne to Interlarken stay Two Nights do the Jungafrau from here and go to a couple of other villages Leave Interlarken around 10am on the Third Day go to Zurich check bags in hope I can do this at the train station. Spend the Day in Zurich. Zurich Night Train to Prague maybe sleeper Would appreciate it if you have any other advice for me to let me know

You would take the bus from Menaggio to Lugano. Mthere are direct trains from Lugano to Luzern every two hours, and in between you can travel with a single change at Arth-Goldau. From Luzern there is a direct train to Interlaken Ost, taking about 2 hours. If you are not in a hurry you can also go partway by boat on the Brienzersee.
