Meeting place suggestions for FCO (Rome) airport?

My aunt and uncle (arriving on two different international flights) need to find each other at FCO on June 18th. They don't travel much and are very nervous about not being able to find each other.

  1. Anyone familiar with the FCO terminal maps (from the official airport website) to tell me where the MEETING POINT sign is approximately on the map?

  2. I read here that Terminal C is currently closed. Is it reasonable to assume my aunt and uncle will both be sent through Terminal B since they are flying internationally?

  3. Aren't the baggage claim and arrival areas for B and C the same? The way some questions are answered it sounds like they may be separate but the map doesn't make that clear.

  4. Is there more than one MEETING POINT sign for Terminal B vs. Terminal C arriving passengers after they get out of immigration and customs?

  5. The post that suggested the small cafeteria with chairs and tables to another passenger as a meeting place was a great recommendation (fantastic directions!), but unfortunately the name of the cafeteria was not mentioned in the posting. I am afraid my aunt or uncle may not be good at following directions/orienting themselves, and with no location name, they won't be able to ask others to help them find their way to each other.

Chef Express Restaurant and Café looks quite visible on the terminal map. I am wondering if that is a good place to pick for my aunt and uncle to meet up? I'm not sure how easy it is to get to the restaurant once you exit the immigration and customs (Terminal B or C), whether the restaurant is even open, whether one can sit there for an hour or more if one is not ordering a meal (just coffee or wine)?

I appreciate any information or suggestion. Thanks in advance!

I would not rely on the map. It may be old and not correct. I suggest meeting at the airline you travel check in counter regardless of where it is.

Or you might use the check in counter for another airline.

I would not choose a commercial point such as a restaurant because those businesses often move.

Choosing the MEETING POINT sign won't work if there is more than one in the airport. Having several terminals complicates your problem, but there is normally only one check in counter for an airline.

Sonia - Check the PM I sent you and let me know if that message and this follow-up, combined with the response on the "To the Boot" board, answers your questions!

  1. Meeting point is approximately 35 feet exiting LEFT through the frosted doors.

  2. Terminal C closed for 2-3 years according to airport personnel. All International FROM the US will come through the B Arrivals Terminal. If you're connecting on a commuter aircraft in the EU, you could come through A or AA.

  3. Baggage claim areas may be segregated but all folks, via signage, are funneled out through the B Arrivals door.

  4. There is other MEETING POINT Signage in the airport, but if you come out the B Arrivals Door and go 35 feet to your LEFT - you'll never see the other MEETING POINTS located in terminals C, A, or AA and upstairs!!! Trust me, you can't miss it. It's located just where the arrival display screens area, announcing all incoming flights for the next 2-3 hours, also 35 feet left of the Arrivals' doors!

  5. Not sure the cafeteria name, but it's again to the left of the door and more to the left of the MEETING POINT. Keep going left and you walk into it... it's a DEAD END! Chairs and tables almost always available.

They can order a coffee, coke etc. and sit there as long as they want... This is Italy (TII)!!!!

Hope that helps,

Ciao,
Ron

Awesome! I'll tell my mom to meet me there, too, as she is joining me there.
