Meeting Friends at Heathrow

We have flown into Heathrow many times (into Terminal 4). This August we will again fly into Terminal 4, landing (supposedly) at 1:30 p.m. My cousin and her friend from Sweden will arrive at 2:30 at Terminal 3. My assumption (if we're on time) is that we will be able to go through immigration and get to Terminal 3 to meet them. Anyone done this? Is this workable if all is on schedule?

There are a couple of challenges. You may not necessarily get out of immigration before they do. When they arrive at T3, they will get to go through the lane for EU citizens. When I used to travel with colleagues from the EU, they would often get through immigration 30 minutes faster than me. Then you will then need to transfer landside from T4 to T3. I think this means taking either the bus or Heathrow Connect to get between the terminals (but check ... I haven't flown into T4 recently) and this could mean waiting 20 to 30 minutes. Where are you headed after Heathrow? There may be better places to meet than at T3. If you are staying in London, my recommendation would be for you to meet up at the hotel. I've had too many times when my flights have been delayed coming into LHR.

Thank you, Laura. These are just the types of issues I was concerned about (and had no idea).

I think the same advice stands - I discovered that our friends are indeed arriving at Terminal 3 on Scandinavian air, and we will be arriving at Terminal 1 on United. This does sound complicated and perhaps meeting at the hotel is better, though I would rather meet them at Heathrow and go together.

Sharon, Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 is much easier than T4 to T3. You can actually walk between T1 and T3. It is bit of a hike, but there are tunnels and moving walkways and such. I still prefer meeting at the hotel, but if you decide to meet at the airport, take a look at the maps on the Heathrow website and perhaps choose a shop to meet at.

Thank you, Laura! I just noticed on the SAS website (that they will be flying) that they recommend people arriving (and meeting) at Terminal 3 go to the Information Desk in the arrival area. It indicated that could be a good place to meet and they would page if necessary. I'm glad you think the distance between terminals will be better. Thanks again.
