May I purchase an europass in Europe??

I am a Canadian student studying a 2 month program in Florence. I am thinking to visit Monaco and Lourdes by the end of June. Does anyone know if it's possible to purchase a europass when i am already in Europe? I saw that there's youth ticket available on www.raileurope.com, will i be able to buy the youth ticket personally at train station?

Thanks,
Maria

You can, but it is not advisable. They might be hard to find, selection might be limited, and they will be more expensive. See here, about 1/3 down on the page.

If you are only planning to go to those locations in France, it would probably be cheaper to just buy second class "point to point" tickets at the train station in Italy... rather than getting a rail pass.

I would buy point-to-point tickets. You can buy them at the RR station the day you travel or a day before. And they are usually cheaper than buying a pass.

Always ask for a computer print of your itinerary when you buy your ticket. It will show the train numbers and times which will make your travel easier.

Thanks Carl.

I have asked about the cost of train ticket from Florence to Monaco. It is just 25.2euro, what a nice deal. However, the ticket office in Florence wasn't able to offer me the ticket from Monaco to Lourdes; I am not be able to know the cost or to buy the ticket until I reach Monaco. I wonder if anyone knows the cost of that?

Maria...the cheapest I find is 57 Euro, but it's a long ride...10 hours during the day, with changes in Nice and Toulouse. Unfortunately, east-west links across central and southern France aren't that good (all roads lead to Paris.) You can get an overnight run, and a second-class Couchette for the overnight part (Nice-Toulouse...around 8:30 pm until 5:15 am) for 71 Euro....save yourself the cost of a hotel for a night, and arrive in the morning.

hi Norm, thanks for the info.
Your idea sounds great, where can I get the details?
