I just bought 2 tickets from Vienna to Budapest on Mav-Start for 16-Sept-14. International e-tickets need to be picked up at an e-ticket machine. I am not going to be in Hungary prior to this train ride. Should I start processing for a refund now, or is there a way to collect the e-tickets in Vienna?

on the Mav-Start site go to customer service and then to MAVDIREKT to email your question to them. They have been very good about answering questions I have had.....once a year ago for our trip in 2013 and a week ago I had a question for our fall trip and had a reply within 2 hours!

Pam's advice is best. Each web site is different, but in many cases, online tickets must be picked up in the country from whom you bought them. Assume so, unless you see confirmation before completing purchase that you will be able to print tickets at home or display them on a smart phone.

I hope you can get this resolved.
For anyone else reading this, the problem of picking up tickets in another country is why you should usually book tickets from the website of the country the train originates in, unless you are SURE that you will get an ticket e-mailed to you. So, for anyone else going from Vienna to Budapest, book it on Austrian Rail: http://www.oebb.at/en/index.jsp
