We are going to be in Malaga at the end of September and want to make a day trip to Gibraltar. What's the best way to get there? Car? Bus? Train? Thanks for any advice.
This website will outline your options for traveling between Malaga and Gibraltar: http://www.malagaairport.eu/airport/itineraries/malaga-to-gibraltar.php
When I did that in May I took the bus to directly to LaLinea. The bus station is about 200 meters from the frontier and you can either walk across or take a cab. You can find the schedule here:

Thank you very much for information. It is very helpful.
I've taken the bus, it's quite a long journey but interesting! For a lot of information on the area, including transportation, there's a great website at www.andalucia.com Enjoy your trip, that's a lovely time of year to visit. Maggie
Malaga to La Linea is about 150k and the bus trip takes about 2 hours. The scenery is great.
Sasha, when you get to Gibralter hire one of the "cabs".(5 passenger vans) For a PP $12, plus entry fees; $12PP to the caves, etc, you get a 3hr? guided tour almost to the very top of Gibralter, with lots of narration, many stops, including a walk thru the original tunnels built by the British, a photo stop where your guide will let you spend some quality time with the apes! , etc. Ask for Stuart. Our driver was posted on Gibralter by the British Army, and has a great insight about the history. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Spain in June.
Thank you Steve. That's a great tip.
