I have a 6 day 5 country selectpass and am having problems trying to make reservations and night train sleeper reservation- I went to eurail and could not go beyond giving them the countries and routes- i saw no where i could purchase a reservation for trip segments. any ideas? thank you
First Eurail sells rail passes, not tickets or reservations. RailEurope does sell reservations, but they mark them up. Try to avoid using them.
This is one of the dirty secrets of rail passes. It's sometimes difficult to make reservations once you have the pass.
However, in most cases for non-night trains, you don't need reservations. If you do, you can probably get them at the stations over there. Night trains are a different story. Accommodations do sell out. You need to reserve your place well in advance.
You didn't say what countries. That makes a difference. You can make reservations for almost any train connection, including night trains, that begins or ends in Germany on the German Rail website.
I found the same problem. I couldn't book reservations without buying a whole ticket. So, I just called them. I needed an overnight from Oslo to Bergen, so I called NSB (the Norwegian railway company) directly, got a friendly and helpful clerk, and had my reservations in 5 minutes. I'll pick up my reservation ticket at the train station. Did the same for an afternoon train from Stockholm to Oslo, and my ferry tickets from Tallinn to Stockholm. Calling Europe was fast and easy.
Plus I saved the insane cost of shipping and other fees that Rail Europe charges!
