making a phone call from Terminal 5 Heathrow

I would like to know if anyone knows if I can make a phone call from Terminal 5 using a credit card? I do have a cell phone but I can't get it topped up until I arrive in France. Should we miss our plane I will want to phone the people who are meeting us to let them know we'll be on the next flight out. I'm not sure regular old fashioned phones are available anymore.

That's great, do you know if they'll accept an American Credit card? I also have a Verizon phone card I could use.

I've never used a payphone at Heathrow, but it's a safe bet that they will accept US magnetic strip Visa/MC cards.

Mary, not sure what a Verizon card is exactly, but if you get a calling card before you go from AT&T or someone else (at Costco, Walmart, Sams, online, etc.), you can use that instead of a credit card. You may be able to buy one of these calling cards over there, but it sounds like you're looking for a way to be prepared immediately when you land. I have an AT&T brand card. The rates aren't terrific, but it is a handy backup. Just in case you go that route, let me point out that when I last used it in the U.K. I had to go through a strange sequence: I had to call the local U.K. AT&T number (available online). Then I had to dial the U.S. AT&T telephone number. Then I had to put in my phone card code. Finally, I had to dial the number as if dialing from the U.S. So to call a number in France, after going through the first three steps, you'd have to dial the U.S. access code and then the country code for France and then the number. A little complicated, isn't it? Makes using a cell seem so much more attractive.
