Madrid to Paris

We are spending a week in Madrid and a week in Paris with two days between. It seems that we need to change trains at Hendaye. I can't really find much about this town and I am wondering if it is a nice place to spend the night.

Not much there, but there's nothing wrong with it. The little recreational marina is interesting. The nicer part of town is across the river (spanish side), but that's a good hike on foot due to the way the only bridge runs. If you look a little, you'll find a few Basque restaurants that have good grub - - you can spot them by the odd names that don't look like spanish or french 'echeveria' or 'eloreaga' or 'gibuzkia' or similar combinations of letters that sound real harsh if you try to pronounce them. Most of them will be on the spanish side of the border. If you're determined to own a beret, this is the place to buy one - - a good, substantial Basque one instead of the fruity things with logos and such that you'll see in Paris.

You could save time and money by flying Easy Jet, Ryan Air, etc....

Personally, on that route, I would spend the time in Bordeaux. In the other direction, if you haven't been yet, I would stop-over in Barcelona and continue on the night train to Paris. (I have done that train and liked it, in a shared 4-berth sleeper.)
