Researching to book a flight for October and our return flight shows a our from Granada with Iberia to Madrid to Chicago with a 45 minute connection time..
Can this be done? comments?

Looking at the Iberia site and a Granada-Madrid-Chicago for a random date in Oct, I see a connection time of 2.5 hours.
What are you looking at that has just a 45 minute time?

4 and 4S are not separate terminals. 4S is just a satellite to 4.
Luggage will be checked through, so all this will involve is a walk from on gate to a next, with a 3 minute people mover ride in between, and somewhere you will pass passport control to get you exit stamp.
If the airline believes this is possible in 45 minutes than it probably is.
