Luzern Bahnhof question

Is there an exit from the west side of the station out to Zentralstrasse, which appears to run the length of the station on the west side? It would make it a lot easier to walk to our hotel (Cascada) which is south of the station where Zentralstrasse turns.

Looking on Google street view, I can see what appears to be an exit, and a crosswalk, at Zentralstrasse 10, but then I cannot get Street View again until well south of there, around Zentralstrasse 28. So I cannot "walk" the length of the street and look around. Does Zentralstrasse become a pedestrian zone with an underground street in that "missing" area? There is some sort of long linear structure visible from above, along with the unbroken line of trees just west of that. After that (going south) the street just looks to parallel the railroad tracks, with a fence between.

We will be arriving after a long-haul flight from the west coast, so I want to be sure I know what I am getting us into with the walk!

Yes there is an exit from the west side of Hauptbahnhof. Then walk left just little bit over two blocks and you will arrive to Zentralstrasse 28.

See station plan here: https://www.sbb.ch/content/dam/infrastruktur/trafimage/bahnhofplaene/plan-luzern-shopping.pdf
There is an exit halfway along the station, marked "Ausgang Zentralstrasse".

It all depends on which platform you are on and where you are on your train. If you are at the middle or the back and are not on platforms 2 or 3, you will be further back than this exit and you may still have to go to the front of the station to get around the front of your train.
There appears to be an underpass on the plan a bit further back, with exits both sides of the station, but I can't remember seeing it, I always exit at the from where the lake is.

Yes, there is an door at the crosswalk near the Supermarket Migros that you can view using Google Earth. We stayed at the Waldstaetterhof midway between the side exit/entrance you are looking for and the main entrance.

Thank you---that is most helpful. I have been in that station only once, and all I recalls that it is large! I am sure we will have to walk to the front of our train to crossover to that side, but it still will be shorter to go out the side exit than the front.

Lola, if you're coming from the Zürich airport on the direct train (the hourly one at xx:47 -- that's the one which doesn't make you change trains at the Zürich HB) then you'll arrive in Luzern on track 4. So you just go around the front of your train, and on the opposite side of track 3 you'll pass a Bachman's bakery, then a waiting room, then a Burger King, and then the Tourist Info office. Then you'll come to the Zentralstrasse exit. Or you can walk through the Tourist Info office and come out the other side onto Zentralstrasse. When you come out, turn left to go south.
